Data Transmission
    

  • Data transmission is defined as when we enter data into a computer with keyboard each element encoded by the electronics within the keyboard into an equivalent binary coded pattern, using one of the standard schemes that are used to an interchange of information.
  • The data transmission is the process of transferring data between two or more digital devices. Data is transformed from one device to another in analog or digital format.

  •  Data transmission enables devices or components within devices to speak to each other.
Types of Data Transmission
  1. Serial Transmission
  2. Parallel Transmission   

Serial Transmission is the data transmission which sends data bits one after another over a single channel.
Parallel Transmission sends multiple data bits at the same time over multiple channels.

Types  of data modes

   There are several types of data transmission data modes
  1. simplex
  2. Half-duplex
  3. Full duplex

   
Simplex mode of transmission the communication is unidirectional.
The half Duplex mode of transmission the communication is two-directional, but the channel is interchangeably used by both the connected devices.
The Full Duplex mode of transmission the communication is bi-directional and the channel is used by both the connected device.
  • simplex mode of transmission the communication between the sender and receiver occurs only in one direction. The sender can only send the data and the receiver can only receive the data. The receiver cannot reply to the sender.
       Ex: keyboard and monitors keyboard can only give input and                  monitors can only give the output
  • The half-duplex mode of transmission the communication between the sender and receiver in both the directions in this mode, but in one at a time.
       Ex: walkie talkie in which message is sent one at a time and messages are sent both the directions.
  • The full-duplex mode of transmission the communication between the sender and receiver in both directions simultaneously.
        Ex: Telephone network in which there is communication between two persons by a telephone line, through which can talk and listen at the same time.

  • Jitter
The system must deliver the data to the correct destination. Data must have received by the intended device or user and only by the device or user.
The system must deliver the data accurately and have been altered in transmission.
The system must deliver data in time. Data delivered late are useless in case of audio or vedio.
Jitter refers to the variation in the packet arrival time.

 Data transmission Media

Transmission media is a tract that carries information from the sender to the receiver. In this, we use different types of cables to transmit the data. Data can be transformed into electronic or electromagnetic signals.
Types of Data transmission Media:

  1. Guided media
  2. unguided media
Guided media has different types of cables they are:

  • Twisted pair cable
  • Shield Twisted pair
Unguided media also have different types of cables:


  • Radio waves
  • Microwaves
  • infrared

Data Transmission Speed
The speed with which data can be transmitted from one device to another. Data rates can be determined as megabits or megabytes.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Data transmission

  1. An asynchronous method is that no synchronization is required between the transmitter and receiver devices.
  2. Data Transmission can be slower, but it is not always cased.
