Hello, TechTrending Readers Welcome to Our Website hope you guys are enjoying our Latest Mobiles Releasing In September & Their Specifications. Now welcome here to know about What is a Sim & How Does A Sim Works. So, Here we go... Post by vahed abbas.

what is a sim card?
SIM stands for Subscriber identity module.SIM is used to stores identity information of people. Data that SIM cards contain include user identity, location and phone number, network authorization data, contact lists, personal security keys and stored text messages.SIM cards allow a mobile user to use this data and connect the user to the network of their choice.

When did the first SIM release?
SIM first appeared with the first digital 'GSM' mobile phones in 1992. Unlike the analog mobiles before it, GSM mobiles used digital technology for interference-free communication among other benefits. The Nokia 1011 was the first GSM mobile phone to go on sale.

How is the Connectivity of SIM?
The computer chip on a SIM doesn’t have much memory, but it stores a host of information needed to connect to a mobile phone network. This includes a unique ID called the IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) which is used to connect someone calling your mobile number to your phone, rather than to someone else’s.
What Does a SIM store?
SIM can store names and telephone numbers, which makes it much easier to switch phones without losing your contact details. This isn’t much of an issue in these days of cloud-based backup, but this innovation was a huge relief to anyone who remembers typing in contact details using the fiddly ‘multitap’ mobile phone keys of the 1990s. Some phones have a dual SIM option where we can store more information.

The Size of the SIM?
*Earlier the size of Full-Size SIM was Standard size & was fine for early digital mobile phones, as the technology developed the size of the SIM got shrinked.
*Then the Micro SIM was introduced from 2010 by updating technology & size of the SIM got shrinked a little.

*Later the Nano SIM was introduced from 2012 and is being used in newer smartphones up now. it is very much smaller in size when compared to Standard SIMs.

Benefits of SIMs:
A SIM card can be switched easily from one phone to another. The portability of data offers a number of benefits. For example, a user that buys a new phone can install the current SIM card to associate the new phone with the same number and user preferences as the old one. In another common situation, if a phone's battery runs out of power, the user can easily install the card to another subscriber's phone to borrow it without running up that user's minutes. Some vendors offer prepaid SIM cards that can provide travelers with local numbers, as long as their cell phones are not locked to a specific carrier.

Is SIM Secured?
An individual’s SIM card can be a target for hackers since the SIM card has indirect access to a person’s email, banking information or social media accounts. Many times an option to recover a password is sent through text or SMS. If a hacker gains access to the information stored on a SIM card, they could transfer the data to another SIM card.
But users can set a PIN for SIM to prevent it from being used in a separate devices.
